Two University Jobs: Keep Time Attached to the Right Assignment

Use a position-and-date ledger to make a multiple-assignment question precise without guessing about private timekeeping controls.

A combined total can hide the useful detail

When one person has more than one university assignment, a single total of hours may be accurate but still insufficient for a time-record question. The missing detail is attribution: which work belonged to which position on which date? The public MyTime introduction says multiple-job time should be assigned to the proper position. It does not give this independent guide access to an employee's assignments or current controls. The practical task here is to preserve attribution in your evidence before asking for help.

Use a position-and-date ledger

Create a personal reference with date, assignment, actual work interval, and the source that confirms the interval. Use the position names or identifiers your department recognizes, rather than a nickname that makes sense only to you. Keep any unconfirmed attribution visible. This ledger is an editorial troubleshooting aid, not a replacement for the required official record. Follow departmental timekeeping instructions and ask the responsible contact how to handle a correction. Do not invent a system workaround or enter the same interval twice to make a total look complete.

Worked example: one afternoon, two assignments

Imagine a fictional employee who performs morning work for a library assignment and afternoon event support for a second campus assignment. Their rough note says six hours on Tuesday. That total does not tell either supervisor which work they are reviewing. The employee reconstructs the two actual intervals from contemporaneous records and labels each with the relevant assignment. If there was a gap between them, they preserve the gap rather than turning the day into one continuous interval. No pay rate or overtime treatment is assumed.

Now suppose the event-support interval appears associated with the wrong assignment in a record the employee is authorized to review. They report the date, interval, observed attribution, and intended assignment, along with the evidence supporting it. They ask who should correct the record and how completion will be confirmed. They do not ask both supervisors to make independent changes without coordination, because that could create two different responses to one issue. The ledger makes the handoff clear while leaving the actual correction to the authorized process.

Separate assignment questions from compensation questions

Correct attribution is one question. The effect on earnings, leave, funding, or any other employment matter may be another. Avoid deriving those outcomes by comparing job titles or adding percentages on your own. If a second question remains after the record is corrected, identify it explicitly and seek the responsible office's explanation. A clean work record improves the evidence available; it does not turn an editorial worksheet into an official pay calculation or a determination about how multiple appointments interact.

Preserve context without collecting unnecessary records

Keep only the information needed for your own authorized task. A shared schedule may contain other employees' names or sensitive operational details, so do not attach it wholesale when a narrow description is enough. Confirm the approved channel before sending documentation. Review the current official instructions if your appointments or organizational scope change. This source check was made October 1, 2026, and the MyTime page describes a November 1, 2025 introduction. Those two dates have different meanings and should remain separate in any reference note.
